College of Architecture and Planning was established in King Saud University in 1404 AH. The Architecture and Building Sciences department, the college’s nucleus, was the first academic institution to teach architecture in the Arabian Peninsula. Originally part of the College of Engineering, this department was established in 1387 AH. Both college sections: Architecture and Building Sciences and Urban Planning are part of human knowledge branches that combine art and science, and are deeply connected to other arts and humanities. A successful architect is one who is concerned with the society and national culture, considering both their past and their future to produce authentic work that meets community needs, serves the local environment and culture, and develops a distinct urban character. This involves maintaining harmonious relationships between the components of a single building and adjacent buildings, as well as between neighborhoods, cities and regions as required by the Islamic perception on humanity and the environment. It also benefits from modern information technologies, new materials and modern construction methods. It is worth mentioning that studying any majors within this college requires a great deal of patience and perseverance, while simultaneously demanding a high degree of precision and organization. It also cultivate a sense of spatial awareness, imagination and self-expression.

The College offers a bachelor's degree in Architecture and Building Sciences and Urban Planning, upon completion of 160 credit hours distributed over 10 academic levels over five years. Graduates of this college enjoy equal employment opportunities as graduates of engineering colleges in civil jobs. The College  offers a unique educational experience that addresses a wide range of issues and challenges faced by individuals and society. Therefor, the college's objective extend beyond theoretical research and studies, it also seeks to identify and solve many problems faced by society in the fields of Architecture and Building Science and Urban Planning. In addition, the College of Architecture and Planning collaborates with numerous governmental bodies on real-world projects, providing students with opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge while benefiting the governmental bodies with their academic expertise. Given the college's commitment to providing students with practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge, it offers summer training opportunities with prestigious local, regional and international organizations and companies.
