The Department of Urban Planning was first established in 1984G as part of the College of Architecture and Planning which was founded during the academic year 1983-1984G in accordance with the Royal Decree number 2061/7/M, dated 05/12/1983G. The Department of Urban Planning at King Saud University is one of only four such departments throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Urban planning is a discipline of paramount importance as it plays a major role in the developmental process and urban organization within cities and regions. Therefore, insofar as urban planning is concerned in Saudi Arabia the job market is in dire need for qualified graduates in order to help carry out urban reform, address issues in this respect and execute planning and development of human settlements.
